Our Commitment
More Than A Chapter
Since April 3, 1920, the Detroit Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has been deeply woven into the fabric of the Detroit community. Service isn’t something we schedule — it’s who we are.
Our brothers engage on local, provincial, and national levels — partnering with organizations that tackle cancer awareness, housing insecurity, youth development, senior wellness, and more.
"The foremost thought has always been — how can we help? That spirit, born in 1920, continues to drive every act of service our chapter undertakes today."
The First Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi in the State of Michigan — and the flagship of the Mighty Northern Province.
Ongoing Initiatives
How We Serve
Our community service spans health, housing, education, and youth development. Here are the ongoing initiatives our brothers actively support throughout the year.
Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure
Brothers of the Detroit Alumni Chapter participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure — supporting breast cancer research and raising awareness in the Metro Detroit community.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
In partnership with the American Cancer Society, our chapter joins the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk — a powerful community movement for awareness, hope, and action.
Bingo at Brush Park Pavilion
Twice a year, our brothers host Bingo nights for seniors at Brush Park Pavilion — bringing joy, fellowship, and connection to Detroit’s elder community.
Donations to Transition 123
The chapter supports Transition 123, contributing resources and donations to help individuals and families bridge the gap toward stable, independent housing.
Kappa League Clothing Drives for C.O.T.S.
Working alongside our Kappa League young men, the chapter organizes clothing drives for C.O.T.S. — the Coalition On Temporary Shelter — providing essential items to Detroit families in need.
Pop Tab Collections — Ronald McDonald House
Our chapter collects aluminum pop tabs throughout the year and donates them to the Ronald McDonald House — a simple but meaningful way to support families with seriously ill children.
Economic Empowerment
Suits for Jackets for Jobs
Brothers donate suits and professional attire to Jackets for Jobs — helping Detroit residents enter or re-enter the workforce with the confidence and appearance that opens doors.
Kappa House Upkeep & Improvements
The Historic Kappa House at 269 Erskine St is a landmark of Detroit’s African American fraternal heritage. Our chapter continues its tradition of redecorating and improving this storied community space.
